The bid for this extremely rare 1929 100 pound banknote was closed at an impressive $11,500 last December. What makes this note so unique is the fact that New Zealand banknotes were never printed locally until 1967. Prior to that, they were shipped over from Europe after the bank opened in 1930. This piece of beauty is technically the first New Zealand banknote printed which bears a portrait of Maori King Tawhiao. Apart from the handwritten date indicating the date of production, a cancellation note and other annotations at the top, this bill is in near perfect uncirculated condition.
